We study the effects of a policy aimed at attracting more experienced and better qualified teachers in primary schools in disadvantaged neighborhoods in Uruguay. Recent macroeconomic and financial developments Growth in Malawi’s economy decelerated in 2020 to 1.7% from 5.7 % in 2019. The slowdown in GDP growth was driven by the outbreak of COVID–19, which necessitated a partial lockdown of the economy, resulting in subdued economic activities—mainly in tourism, the accommodation and food subsectors, transportation, and agriculture. We study the impact of a personalized technology-aided after-school instruction program in middle-school grades in urban India using a lottery that provided winners with free access to the program. Lottery winners scored 0.37 sigma higher in math and 0.23 sigma higher in Hindi over just a 4.5-month period.
