This topic brief examines AI-based educational solutions for girls in Southeast Asia and analyses implications of AI for girls’ education and empowerment. Through analysis of regional policy frameworks and social and cultural norms, education technology, and gender-specific challenges, this brief identifies both the opportunities AI presents and risks that must be mitigated while introducing AI in education for girls. It argues that inclusive design, gender-sensitive datasets, and engagement of parents and female role models are essential to advance girls' education through AI and contribute to girls' interest in STEM. The brief also provides recommendations for policymakers, educators, and implementers of AI solutions to advance an equitable AI-enabled future for girls in Southeast Asia.
