Abstract
Integration of information and communications technologies (ICTs) in education sectors is one of the prime objectives of Bangladesh from the last decade. This study is conducted to assess the level of using ICT and acceptance of new technology by secondary level teachers in Bangladesh in their professional and personal arena. The study revealed that in Bangladesh most of the secondary level teachers use computer and internet for their personal purpose and use computers 35 times in a day. It revealed that secondary level teachers are interested to spend for ICT purpose. It also revealed that there is a difference in ICT usage between male and female teachers but no difference of the same among the different level of the teachers. It was found that there is no difference in case of perception about ICT between male and female teachers but perception among different level of teachers about ICT is different. Unavailability of high speed and wireless connections, lack of computer knowledge, high cost at start-up and unwillingness of aged teachers are found as hindrance for use of ICT in secondary level teaching arena. The success of information and communications technology (ICT) applications in teaching is profoundly dependent on the level of computer use by secondary level teachers. Majority of the Secondary level teacher were interested to accept the new technology for their professional capability enhancement and serve the nation. This questionnaire-based study assessed the level of computer and internet use by Secondary level teacher in Bangladesh is not satisfactory but perception of secondary level teacher for accepting new technology is positive both in their personal and professional arena.
